Group Rides

Our group rides are one of the primary ways we build community and get to explore all of the great trails Utah has to offer. Each ride will have at least one ride leader to guide the group and our rides are “no drop” which means we don’t leave anyone behind. We use a Unicorn rating system to convey the fitness and riding level of the ride to help riders select the best fit for their current abilities. If you have questions about the ride levels or figuring out if a ride is right for you, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Grunt Factor Ratings

Some trails are a breeze, and some will have you questioning your life choices. Our Grunt Factor ratings let you know just how much effort you're in for.

Grunt Factor 1 – Easy Breezy: You're basically out for a scenic cruise. Gentle grades (mostly under 5%), smooth terrain, and no major effort required. You’ll finish feeling fresh and ready for more.

Grunt Factor 2 – Mild Burn: Expect some moderate climbing and a bit of steady pedaling, but nothing extreme. Grades stay under 10%, and your legs might notice, but they won’t hate you for it.

Grunt Factor 3 – Steady Grind: Now we're getting into real effort. Longer climbs, steeper grades (up to 15%), and enough work to leave your legs feeling it. Expect to be breathing hard and sweating by the end.

Grunt Factor 4 – Quad Killer: Relentless climbs, steep grades (up to 20%), and limited recovery sections. Your legs will be screaming, and you’ll probably have to stop and catch your breath at some point.

Grunt Factor 5 – Absolute Sufferfest: Brutal grades (20%+), long climbs, and no mercy. Expect hike-a-bike sections, burning lungs, and legs that feel like jelly. If you finish without questioning your life choices, you’re probably a machine.

Tech Factor Ratings

Our Tech Factor ratings help you figure out just how much skill (and nerve) you’ll need to get through.

Tech Factor 1 – Sidewalk Smooth: This is as easy as it gets. Paved or hardened surfaces with a mellow grade (less than 5%). No technical challenges—just pure, carefree cruising. These rides are typically on paved paths or very easy, green-rated trails.

Tech Factor 2 – Some Bumps in the Road: Mostly fi rm and stable with gentle inclines (5% or less). You’ll roll over a few unavoidable obstacles (4 inches or smaller), but nothing too sketchy. If anything bigger is in the way, there’s an easy ride-around. These rides are typically on green-rated trails.

Tech Factor 3 – Getting Tricky: The trail’s mostly solid but has some variability. Grades creep up to 10%, and unavoidable obstacles grow to 8 inches. There’s still an escape line around the gnarliest stuff—if you can find it in time. These rides are typically on easy to moderate blue-rated trails.

Tech Factor 4 – Technical Test Piece: Things are getting serious. The grade steepens (up to 15%), and the trail surface becomes unpredictable. Expect unavoidable obstacles up to 15 inches, loose rock, and sketchy sections. Short sections may push well beyond these limits. These rides are typically on difficult, blue-rated trails and black diamond trails.

Tech Factor 5 – Full-On Tech Gauntlet: Welcome to the chaos. Steep grades (20% or more), unpredictable terrain, and unavoidable obstacles up to 15 inches. Loose rock is everywhere, and many sections exceed the listed criteria. If you love a challenge (or just enjoy suffering), this is where you’ll thrive. These rides are typically on difficult, black diamond trails and double black diamond trails.

*Trail rating system (green, blue, black, double black) is based on trails in Northern Utah which could differ slightly from other regions such as Southern Utah, Colorado, Pacific Northwest, Canada, etc.
